CHANGES IN COSTA RICAN HOLIDAYS

On Tuesday, March 19, 2020, the President of Costa Rica signed Law No. 9803, this law is known as “National Celebration of December 1 as the Day of Abolition of the Army and Non-Mandatory Pay Holiday.” This important change for labor law implied the modification of the holidays in Costa Rica, therefore, as of its publication, October 12 (Day of the Meeting of Cultures) will no longer be celebrated as a holiday, and December 1 (Army Abolition Day) will be commemorated. It is important to emphasize that December 1 will be a holiday, but its payment will not be compulsory.
